EYPS is a professional status for practitioners who work with children aged 0-5, and is part of the government’s strategy to professionalise the early years sector. EYPS training pathways are fully funded for eligible candidates. EYPS candidates at the University of Brighton enjoy a range of stimulating twilight training sessions and modules which explore issues such as: supporting speech and language, sustained shared thinking, leadership, and child development. Every EYP candidate at the University of Brighton has mentor support and an individual professional development plan which is devised with the candidate in order to support them to meet the 39 EYP standards. The aim of the EYPS programme at the University of Brighton is to work closely with individual candidates to ensure that they are developing their own professional voice and leadership qualities so that they may impact positively on outcomes for the children they work with.

University of the West of England
UWE works in conjunction with the Childrens Workforce Development Council (CWDC) to provide a high quality teaching and learning environment for those working in Early Years.
The School of Education is one of the largest providers of professional development in the South West. We offer many flexible courses and are extremely committed to professional study in Early Years. We offer five pathways for EYPS; the Full training, Long EPD, Short EPD, Validation Only and Early Childhood Studies pathway.
In order to help candidates qualify for EYPS, we offer GCSE Maths and English equivalency tests, a special support and coaching session for the Maths equivalency test and a second opportunity to re-take the Maths test, if you need it.
For EYPS full time and Long EPD pathway students there is excellent mentoring support as well as additional support through Visiting Tutors (six additional visits to support practice). You will also gain full-time student status, and so will be exempt from paying council tax, as well as being eligible for HE funding.
For Long EPD Pathway students, modules are taught on the same day throughout the academic year, which means you can commit to a regular study day at your setting.
At UWE, if you are doing the full-training pathway, you can also work towards an MA, as once you have gained EYPS, you only need to complete a 60-credit dissertation module to gain an MA in Early Years. Long EPD pathway students can obtain an Hons degree in Early Childhood Studies (120 credits fully funded) and do not have to pay course fees for this.
We offer on-going support and training for settings and workplace mentors who are key in raising awareness of EYPS in settings. For example, we hold a ‘Big Breakfast’ event to support students for final setting visit assessments by getting the managers on board, and working closely with local authorities to support settings.
UWE has excellent on-site facilities such as libraries, shops, a gym, a nursery, car parking and buses and routes specific to UWE.
Special offer: Free EYPS 'Taster course' - 17th May 2010 for one week
If you are interested in working with Under 5’s but aren’t sure whether EYPS is the right course for you, why not come along and get a feel for the course on our free Taster Course.
The Taster Course will run for one week on 17th May 2010 and you will spend 2.5 days at the UWE campus and 2 days in a nursery setting, getting the feel for how an actual placement would be. A contribution to your expenses will be paid.
