Now that you have recruited your team it is essential that you put measures into place to retain them. It is important that you make provision financially and time wise, to ensure that your staff team are kept up to date through some form of professional development.
Professional development is on-going and should be planned into your business activities annually. Keeping staff skills and knowledge up to date will allow your business to function effectively and increase the quality of the service you provide.
Having an effective appraisal system in place will allow you to identify any specific training and development needs for individual staff that will meet both professional and personal objectives. Staff may wish to further their knowledge out of a specific interest in a particular area; as long as it is still work related it should be given consideration, even if it is not a specific priority in order. This will ensure that staff don’t become despondent, but maintain staff enthusiasm.
